Each profile throws a different shadow line, so on a house with a visible roof it matters as much as the colour. We go through both at the inspection with samples in hand.
Metal roofing was on Melbourne houses long before tile became common, so it rarely looks out of place. The result comes down to getting the profile, the colour and the ridge and barge details right. Where planning controls apply to a property we check what they allow before quoting rather than assuming.
Less than most people expect. The sheeting is fixed over sarking rather than straight onto bare battens, which takes the drumming out of it. If the ceiling already has insulation above it you are unlikely to notice much difference in a downpour.
A metal to metal replacement on a single storey home is usually a matter of days. Tile conversions run longer, because the tiles have to be stripped and carted away and the battens often need replacing. The expected duration goes into the written quote and the dates are confirmed before we book it in.

We strip and remove the tiles, sark the roof and install the new sheeting in the profile and colour you pick.

Roof Repairs
Where a roof is sound and one part of it is not, a repair is the honest answer. Chimney flashings are a common culprit on an older house, because the mortar and the flashing age at different rates and water finds the gap between them. We repair flashings, valleys, damaged sheets and loose fixings, and we do not repair or re-point tile roofs.
Gutters, Box Gutters and Downpipes
New guttering is usually the finishing line on a re-roof, and the colour choice matters here too. A gutter and fascia in the same Colorbond as the roof reads as one continuous edge, while a contrasting colour picks the roof line out. Underneath the look it still has to carry water, so we size gutters and downpipes to the roof area rather than copying whatever was there.

Cladding gives a wall the durability and finish of the roof above it, and it is often used to separate new work from the original house. We install Colorbond steel as well as zinc, copper and aluminium, and detail the junction where cladding meets the roof as flashing work.
