Metal Roofing and Roof Plumbing in Ferny Creek

We are a metal roofing company based in Rowville, and Ferny Creek is one of the Shire of Yarra Ranges suburbs we travel to. The team between them has more than 30 years of roofing experience.

Our work there runs from a single failed flashing right through to stripping a roof back and rebuilding it in Colorbond, with tile conversions, new installs and extensions in between. The gutters, box gutters and downpipes are quoted with the roof because they fail as part of it.

A roof is a drainage system before it is a covering, which is why we look at the valleys and flashings as closely as the sheets. Contact us to book a comprehensive roof assessment.

Why Choose Us

Why Ferny Creek Owners Call Us

Metal roofing and roof plumbing is the whole of our business, with more than 30 years of combined experience in it. We do not repair, re-bed or re-point tile roofs, and being clear about that saves everybody a wasted visit.

The jobs we take on run from one house to warehouses and industrial buildings, so a complicated residential roof is well within the range we work in every week. Whatever is found once the old covering is off is rarely something new.

We are licensed, insured and members of Master Plumbers, and we are licensed to remove asbestos roofing and manage compliant disposal. 25 Google reviews put the work at 5.0.

Common Questions

Roofing in Ferny Creek

  • Yes. Ferny Creek is in the Shire of Yarra Ranges and we travel to it from Rowville. Send the address through and we will book an assessment.

  • Yes, and it is one of the more common calls we get. A flashing or a valley that copes with light rain can be overwhelmed by a downpour, and the fault is usually in how the water is being directed rather than in a hole. Those are the leaks that get missed when a roof is inspected on a dry day, so we look for the cause rather than waiting to see it.

  • No. We are metal roofing specialists, so we do not re-bed, re-point or patch tiled roofs. What we can do is convert a tile roof to Colorbond, which replaces the whole weatherproofing system rather than treating the symptom.

  • Yes. We work to the same profile and the closest available colour, and we will be straight with you about how close that gets against sheets that have been weathering for years. Plenty of people choose a deliberate contrast for the new section instead.

  • On a tile conversion, where the change in weight on the frame calls for it, yes. We organise the engineering input and the building permit as part of the job rather than handing you a list of things to arrange.

  • The whole shire, with Sherbrooke, Tremont, Olinda, Kalorama and Upwey close at hand, and we cover the adjoining councils as well.

Roof Replacement and Re-Roofing

Nobody knows exactly what a replacement involves until the old covering is off, which is why we quote the roof we can see and tell you plainly what the unknowns are. Once it is open, the battens, the rafters and any old sarking get looked over and photographed. The new roof is then built as a drainage system, with new ridge, hip and valley flashings and the laps set so water cannot track back under the sheets. That detailing is what decides whether a roof lasts, far more than the brand on the sheet.

Tile to Metal Conversions

One thing worth knowing before a conversion is what is sitting in the valleys. On tile roofs the valley irons are hidden under the tiles and are often well gone by the time anyone looks, which is part of why the roof has been leaking. A conversion replaces all of that in one move. The weight coming off the frame is a structural change, so the engineering and permit side gets settled before we order a thing.

Roof Repairs

Most of the leaks we are called to are at a junction rather than in open sheeting. Chimney flashings, the step flashing where a lower roof meets a wall, and valleys that have corroded while the sheets either side are sound account for a large share of them. Each can be dealt with on its own without disturbing the rest of the roof. We find the source first, because sealing the nearest likely spot usually just moves the problem.

Gutters, Box Gutters and Downpipes

The junction between a valley and a gutter is one of the hardest working points on a roof and one of the most commonly botched. Water arriving down a valley at speed will jump a gutter that has not been detailed for it, and from the inside that looks like a roof leak. We get those transitions right when we replace guttering, and we size the downpipes for the roof area above. Gutter cleaning is not something we take on.

Metal Cladding

Cladding earns its place on gable ends and upper walls, the parts of a house that are hardest to maintain and most expensive to scaffold. Steel sheeting there removes a repainting cycle and matches the roof above it. What goes on behind the sheets matters as much as the sheets, so we install the battens and the drainage plane rather than fixing straight onto whatever is there. Colorbond, zinc, copper and aluminium are all available.

Commercial Roofing

Schools, halls, churches and community buildings come up alongside the houses, and they share a constraint: the building is in use and cannot be handed over for a fortnight. We quote those in stages, work around the times the building is occupied, and close the roof at the end of each day. Roof sheeting, box gutters, rainheads and downpipes come under one scope so there is no gap between trades.
