Metal Roofing in Montrose
We are a metal roofing company based in Rowville, and Montrose is one of the closer Shire of Yarra Ranges suburbs to us. Our combined roofing experience runs past 30 years.
What we do there spans leak repairs, replacing roofs that are past repair, and converting tile roofs to Colorbond. Roofing on extensions and new builds, and renewing the gutters, box gutters and downpipes, are part of the same work.
Rust and tired fixings account for most of the calls, and which of those you are dealing with changes the answer entirely. Contact us to book a comprehensive roof assessment.

Why Montrose Homeowners Choose Us
We are specialists rather than a general trade with a roofing arm. Metal roofing and roof plumbing is the whole business, with more than 30 years of combined experience behind it.
Montrose is a short run from our Rowville yard, and we cover the rest of the Shire of Yarra Ranges along with the councils on either side of it. That makes scheduling straightforward rather than something we have to work around.
We are licensed, we carry our own insurance, we belong to Master Plumbers, and asbestos roof sheeting leaves under our own removal licence. The Google record is 5.0 over 25 reviews.

What Our Customers Say
- Dylan Peterson Google Review
I couldn't be happier with Alex and the whole VIC Metal Roofing team! They replaced our old rusted and leaking corrugated iron roof with a new Colorbond one, and the difference is night and day. It looks phenomenal now and the stress when it rains is gone. The team were fantastic from start to finish. Very responsive and helpful whenever we had questions.

We recently had the roof and guttering of our older two story weatherboard home replaced by Ben and Alex from Vic Metal Roofing, due to water leaks. The entire project was completed to a very high standard, and the results exceeded our expectations. Ben and Alex provided quality workmanship and clear communication, explaining all the issues and solutions in detail from the initial quote through to completion. Based on our experience, we highly recommend Vic Metal Roofing.

Because metal roofs rarely fail in the middle of a sheet. The laps, the fixings, the flashings and the valleys do the hard work, and all of them can be well gone while the visible sheeting still looks respectable. That is why an assessment means getting on the roof rather than looking at it from the driveway.
If the corrosion is confined and the rest of the roof is sound, yes, and that is a sensible repair. Once the rust is general and the fixings no longer hold, replacing sheets one at a time stops being worth the money and we will tell you that.
Usually the gutter is overflowing at the back rather than leaking at the front, which happens when the fall is wrong, the gutter is undersized or the downpipes cannot clear the volume. We look at the drainage as a whole rather than sealing the join.
No. Metal is the specialty here, so re-bedding, re-pointing and patching tiles are not things we do. Converting a tile roof to Colorbond is something we do regularly and that is what we can quote.
The whole shire, with Mount Dandenong, Kalorama, Mooroolbark and Mount Evelyn nearby, and we work through Knox and the other adjoining councils as well.

Roof Replacement and Re-Roofing
Old zincalume and galvanised roofs tend to go at the fixings before the sheets, and that is the point where a roof stops being repairable. Every screw or nail relies on a seal where it passes through the steel, and once those have perished the sheet lifts a little with every gust and water works into the lap. Re-fixing an old roof does not solve it. We strip the covering, check what is underneath while it is visible, and build the new roof in Colorbond with new flashings right through.

Tile to Metal Conversions
The valleys are usually the surprise on a tile conversion. Under the tiles sit valley irons that nobody has looked at since the house was built, and on an older roof they are often the reason it leaks. The battens go as well, since tile battens are the wrong size and spacing for sheeting, and new battens are fixed to suit the profile. The weight leaving the frame is the structural part, and that can bring in an engineer and a permit.

Roof Repairs
Corrosion starts where water sits longest, so the ends of sheets, the laps and the valleys give out while the steel higher up still has years in it. On a roof in that condition, replacing the affected sheets and renewing the flashings around them is a proper repair rather than a stopgap. Chimney and wall flashings are the other regular job, because they rely on being lapped correctly instead of sealed. We tell you honestly when a roof has gone past that point.
Gutters, Box Gutters and Downpipes
An overflowing gutter does its damage out of sight, running down the back of the fascia and into the eaves rather than spilling over the front where you would notice. By the time the wall is marked, the fascia timber is often soft. We replace the gutter with a fascia cover and new brackets so there is something solid to fix to, and we size the downpipes against the roof area draining into them. Cleaning gutters is not a service we run.

Metal Cladding
Cladding comes up most often on additions, second storeys and gable ends. In each case a new wall has to sit next to an older one, and matching brick or weatherboard exactly is either impossible or expensive, so a different material handled deliberately reads better than a near miss. Colorbond is the usual choice and can be matched to the roof, with zinc, copper and aluminium available where the finish is doing the work.

Commercial Roofing
Shops, offices and small commercial premises need the roof dealt with without closing the doors. We quote the work in stages, arrange deliveries and access around trading hours, and make sure the roof is weathertight at the end of every day. The owner, the owners corporation or the facilities manager deals with us directly rather than through intermediaries. Sheeting, flashings, box gutters and downpipes sit in one scope.
